Here at hpn.TO, we’re big fans of SBT Seabuckthorn. That said we find that not too many people know about the company and the great benefits their products can bring. This is the first part of a two part series on various frequently asked questions relating to SBT Seabuckthorn.

1) What is the difference between Seabuckthorn 100% pure Seed and Fruit (Berry) Oils?

This is the most popular question and I’ll answer it in two parts.

A) The pure SBT Seed Oil is applied direct. The pure SBT Fruit Oil is an ingredient, as many companies have discovered. The light amber colored pure Seed Oil absorbs into the skin faster than the very orange pure Fruit Oil. Topically, always start with putting the pure SBT Seed Oil on the skin first. Get used to applying the pure Seed Oil, then progress to add the pure Fruit Oil as an ingredient to create the ultimate serum for the skin. It is called SBT Single Source Oil and it is a blend of one part Seed Oil and one part Fruit Oil. Creating a different blend with a higher concentration of Seed Oil makes a lot of sense; adjusting to ones individuals needs is appropriate. I encourage you to do your own “experiments” by treating your skin to different combinations. Have fun with this. Remember the saying “don’t put it on your skin unless you can eat it?” well this is it. By placing a drop on the back of the hand it is easy to see and feel how quickly it absorbs and that it does not feel greasy and leaving the skin feeling soft and supple. This is how easy it is to demonstrate the pure SBT Seabuckthorn Seed Oil and SBT Single Source.

B) The constituent profile difference between the Oils is the Seed Oil has up to 95% EFA with the same 106 nutrients in total that Fruit Oil has, including 22 fatty acids, 42 lipids, 6 fat soluble Vitamins (including Vitamin K and all 8 isomers of Vitamin E), 36 kinds of Flavonoids and Phenols, Lecithin, (with the PC being 47%.), and a recently new total of 41 discovered Carotenoids. Also include 8 Phospholipids and 17 Phytosterols. The Seed Oil has Omega 3 and 6 at an optimum one to one ratio and contains less than 2% Omega 7. The Seed Oil is a remarkable whole food supplement. It easily has more healthy components and constituents than any other supplement, man made or not.

The Fruit Oil’s profile of nutrients compared to seed oil includes, 3 times more palmitic acid, is approximately 35% palmitoleic acid, (Omega 7), has twice as much Lecithin and Vitamin E and significantly more concentration of Carotenoids, specifically, Beta-Carotene and Lycopene. The dark orange color is attributed to high concentration of Carotenoids. Functionally, using straight fruit oil alone topically is not recommended because of the dark color and slower skin absorption time. It is widely used internationally by companies as an ingredient and is erroneously described as Seabuckthorn Oil. No harm is done using it alone, it does create results of leaving the skin soft and supple if one is patient enough. Also internally, it stands on it’s own as a giant among supplements and whole food supplements. There is no better source of full spectrum Vitamin E, Lecithin, Beta-Carotene, Lycopene and the powerful brain foods, Phytosterols and Phosholipids. Both oils are edible; in fact, they all come encapsulated and the one to one blend of Seed and Fruit Oils are called the SBT Single Source Capsules and come in 31 and 90 sizes at 1000mg and the bottles are in 30 and 50ml sizes. The individual oils come in 60 Capsules at 500mg and the bottles are in 10, 30 and 50ml sizes.

2) Which products are for what? i.e. What do you use the Seed Oil for? What do you use the Fruit Oil for? Etc.

As mentioned, topically start with the Seed Oil as a very effective moisturizer or a very effective treatment for therapeutic purposes. From a nutritional stand point SBT Seed Oil is for everything the body needs, topically and internally. Omega 3 and 6 at an optimum one to one ratio is the most important aspect of nutrition. Consider SBT Seed Oil to be the best source of EFA. Scroll down to the last question to see an extensive and growing list. As a Canadian Company, SBT Seabuckthorn focuses on natural treatments for Acne and Rosacea and leaves the discovery of everything else to the experts. Researching the constituents, components and nutrients contained in SBT and then researching the effects on the body of those nutrients opens up an understanding as to why SBT is an effective treatment for Acne and Rosacea and therefore leading to being an effective treatment for anything that includes, inflammation, infection, hormone imbalance, dis-functional immune systems and lack of nutrition. The body works by way of pumps, one-way valves, electricity and chemical reactions resulting in the circulation of blood and other fluids to transport nutrients and wastes, while supporting every process and function necessary for being alive and maintaining our health. Dr. Oz says Seabuckthorn Oil is the best thing for Acne, (topically). What he doesn’t say is that it is also the best thing internally for Acne.

The scientific community generally “isolates” to understand and explain how nutrients effects body functions. Keeping the whole picture as the contextual framework is what the Alternative Health Industry does. This is an important distinction as all nutrients are co-factors, with each having many influences. Treating the whole body is key, yet serving the consumers is our job and selling them what they want and describing to them what they need can sometimes be a challenge. The complete internal SBT package includes all four core products, Seed oil, Fruit Oil, Berry Flavone Capsules and Tea. They represent 192 of the 194 known nutrients, certified organic, all from the same plant source with the optimum delivery, or utilization system, the one to one ratio of Omega 3 and 6. This creates energy optimally to make brand new healthy cells. In a nutshell, this is what makes SBT so remarkable and until an individual experiences this directly, it is not provable. It is only hearsay.

For all skin concerns including Rosacea and Acne start with the Seed Oil Topically. Again, using the Seed Oil and Fruit Oil together is the ultimate serum you can put on your skin. But do the combination at a “Therapeutic Time” during your day or evening, because it takes time to soak in and for the color to settle down. If your skin is still tinted orange by the time you want to have it all soaked in, then wash off the remainder. You’ll find that it leaves the skin a wonderfully soft, supple and resilient. Following up by applying your favourite SBT Facial Cream. The SBT Berry Cream is for Rosacea. The SBT Tea Cream is for Acne and they will compound the benefits. Most people’s skin is parched, so this is the ultimate and best topical care you can do. It absorbs so quickly that it may leave a perception it’s drying the skin, perseverance will result in the complete opposite being realized and pays tribute to how we need to be supplementing the skin from the inside out.

The SBT Berry Flavone Capsule is what’s left over after the seed and fruit oils are extracted. It is 100% pure, unpasteurized and more powerful than any juice. It includes the skin, flesh and has some leaf particles all in a Seed Oil base. It is very high in Vitamin C, Bioflavonoids, plant enzymes and sterols including the “Enzyme of Life”, Super Oxide Dismutase, (SOD). This nutrient like many in Seabuckthorn is an anti-inflammatory. It also activates the body’s production of its own Antioxidants, Catalase and Glutathione Peroxidase, (Master Antioxidant), which in turn “recycle” Vitamin C and E as Free Radical Scavengers maximizing the efficiency of the healing processes orchestrated by the body. Taking SBT Berry Flavone Capsules with the seed and fruit oil is ideal. Consider this supplementation a profound source of nutrition and studies linking it directly to improving Cardio-vascular health in way of strengthening the cardiac heart pump, improving the health of the vascular system and the smallest blood vessels, (Capillaries). This is the foundation of improving overall health and is reflected in skin health.

SBT Tea leaf also has a remarkable amount of nutrition. They are a rare 24% Protein. Nutrients also present are anti-inflammatory and anti-histamines Quercetin, Isorhamnetin, Kaempferol. Catechins etc. Other nutrients in the tea include Polyphenols, Sterols, Essential Amino Acids, Lysine, Threonine, valine, methionine and Phenylalanine etc. Trace Minerals include Calcium, Magnesium, Manganese, Potassium, Copper, Zinc, etc. The tea has a strong concentration of Carotenoids such as Beta-carotene, Lycopene, Lutein and Zeanathan. Ellagic acid benefits throat and esophagus membrane health. There is a profile of 12 fatty acids with Omega 3 having by far the highest concentration and Complete Complex Vitamin E. Brewing the Tea for 15 minutes or all day or night is recommended. It is very pleasant tasting hot or cold and has been accepted with enthusiasm by the general public. One may get up to 10 cups of tea per tea bag. Drinking the tea is a great way to get started with SBT Seabuckthorn. Keep in mind that the Canadian Scientists measuring the nutritional value did it 3 times before they believed the nutritional concentration they were getting. Consider SBT Tea to be the healthiest tea on the market. Researchers say that the leaf extracts of Seabuckthorn leaves have a significant antioxidant and immunomodulatory activity. Seabuckthorn Leaves and Liver Health Study

In a clinically controlled study on rats, scientists looked at whether the leaves had any protective effects by testing a group of rats, some of whom were given the leaf extract before being administered with a liver damage agent, carbon tetrachloride (CCI4). For the study, the team looked at six groups in all. Group 1 was given a daily dose of saline for 5 days; group 2 received saline for 4 days and on the 5th day was given CCI4; group 3 was given a daily dose of silymarin (Extract from Milk Thistle) for 5 days followed by a single dose of CCI4; groups 4, 5 and 6 were given 50, 100 and 200mg of sea buckthorn leaf extract respectively for five days followed by a single dose of CCI4 on the 5th day. The results showed that the leaf extract appeared to confer a protective mechanism on the liver. The rats given CCI4 minus the leaf extract had sustained significant liver damage compared to the control group that did not receive CCI4.In comparison, liver damage was severely restricted in the rats given leaf extract at 100mg and 200mg and CCI4.

3) What do I start with for resolving my (fill in blank)? (i.e. Rosacea, Acne, Psoriasis, Dry Skin, Eczema, Skin, etc.)

Start with the Seed Oil, topically and internally. How much? Topically a few drops depending on the area. Use it 100% pure on the face, for larger areas of the body use a SBT Cream or Soothing Salve. Internally, start with one capsule a day of the SBT Seed Oil for the first week, then go to two a day after that. If you have an acute health situation take more. Taking drops from the bottles is an alternative, 10 drops from once to 3 times or more a day. This is whole food nutrition. The SBT Single Source Capsules are a step up from the Seed Oil Capsules. Everyone can start on the Single Source Capsules, except for people with a very challenging Acne condition. Wait till the Acne has cleared up significantly before trying the Single Source, topically and internally. In the meantime take the Seed Oil Capsules, Berry Flavone Capsules and Tea for Acne sufferers.

Drinking SBT Tea maybe the preferred starting place for some, depending on your customer’s comfort level. Anyone can start this way. Again the whole internal SBT package is the four core products, Seed Oil, Fruit Oil, Berry Flavone Capsules and Tea and is optimum for all skin conditions, except again acute acne sufferers. Again they should hold back on the fruit oil until significant results are met and then it can be incorporated in. Topically, starting with a SBT Therapeutic Moisturizing Cleansing Bar is also effective. The SBT Berry Bar for Rosacea and the SBT Tea Bar for Acne and both for all cleansing needs.

Starting with a SBT Therapeutic Creams is also an effective way to start. The SBT Berry Cream for Rosacea and the SBT Tea Cream for Acne and both for all moisturizing needs. The Creams are water based and is a great alternative for someone not ready to put oil on their skin. Most people will want to start Topically. Right now our number one and two selling products are the SBT Single Source Capsules, 90’s and the SBT Berry Cream. These are our two most important products to have available to your customers, if nothing else. I mean of anything available in the nutrition and skin care industries!

4) Which Cream is for what condition?

• SBT Berry Cream is intended for Rosacea plus more. Has Seed and Fruit Oil.
• SBT Tea Cream is intended for Acne plus more. Has Seed Oil and Leaf Extract.
• SBT Day Cream, self-explanatory. Check out the ingredients on the website.
• SBT Night Cream, self-explanatory. Check out the ingredients on the website.

These four are all face creams, all anti-aging, all remarkably moisturizing and give remarkable results. They all come in one size. SBT Anti-Aging Cream, red label, is a day-to-day face and neck cream and the rest of the SBT Creams are self-explanatory by the label: hand, body and after sun care. There are 3 convenient sizes for travel, 2 oz(60ml), office, 4 oz(118ml), and home, 6 oz(175ml). We recently finished adding a great new line to hpn.TO in Kiss My Face. Kiss My Face is an all-natural body care company that provides a wide range of products that are not only good for you, but good for the planet. I first noticed Burt’s Bees products on the market a few years ago, but only recently decided to try the products for myself. I initially found the name and the logo a little odd, but I once I actually tried the products I was amazed. So far I’ve used Burt’s Bees Beeswax and Banana Hand Creme, Burt’s Bees Almond Milk Beeswax, Burt’s Bees Naturally Nourishing Milk and Honey Body Lotion, Burt’s Bees Soothingly Sensitive Aloe and Buttermilk Body Lotion, Burt’s Bees Beeswax Lip Balm, Burt’s Bees Pomegranate Lip Balm, and Burt’s Bees Peppermint Foot Lotion. I love all of these products. The lotions are rich and creamy without feeling greasy, and the lip balms are fantastic on my dry lips and don’t require constant re-applying. I love that Burt’s Bees uses natural products and that they actually work. The problem with some organic lines is that the products never really live-up to the promises on the label. Burt’s Bees products, on the other hand, feel amazing on my skin and smell delicious. I also love that they provide a wide variety of products, everything from facial cleansers and moisturizers to shampoos and body oils. These products are great for both men and women, and they even have products for babies.

Hand Creams

The two Burt’s Bees hand creams that I’ve tried so far are Burt’s Bees Almond Milk Beeswax Hand Creme and Burt’s Bees Beeswax and Banana Hand Creme. Both of these products contain sweet almond oil and beeswax and both are made from 100% natural ingredients. Both products left my skin feel soft and smooth, although I preferred the scent of the Beeswax and Banana Hand Creme. I’m dying to try Burt’s Bees Shea Butter Hand Repair Creme.

Body Lotions

Both Burt’s Bees Naturally Nourishing Milk & Honey Body Lotion and Burt’s Bees Soothingly Sensitive Aloe & Buttermilk Body Lotion made my skin feel silky and smooth. Both products have a pleasant scent and are almost 100% natural (the Aloe & Buttermilk lotion is made with 99.41% natural ingredients and the Milk & Honey lotion is 98.25% natural). It’s good to know these products were not tested on animals.

Lip Balms

I love Burt’s Bees lip balms because they actually work. Over the years I’ve tried many different types of lip balms and the products by Burt’s Bees are by far among the best. I love the scent of both the Beeswax Lip Balm and the Pomegranate Lip Balm, although my fiance prefers the beeswax lip balm over the pomegranate lip balm.

Foot Lotions

So far I’ve only tried Burt’s Bees Peppermint Foot Lotion but I’m very satisfied with this product. It’s made with 100% natural ingredients and the light peppermint scent is lovely. Sometimes I like to slather it on my feet just before bedtime.

I’m looking forward to trying a couple of their body washes (Burt’s Bees Naturally Nourishing Milk and Shea Butter Body Wash looks especially good) and some of their face cleansers (Burt’s Bees Peach and Willowbark Deep Pore Scrub sounds promising).

A few years ago I began drinking green, white, and herbal teas to assist with weight loss and to aid with digestion. I found that drinking green and herbals teas throughout the day helped me stay calm and clear-headed, and gave me the energy my body needed. Numerous studies have demonstrated the important health benefits of drinking tea. Some teas have been found to help in lowering the risks of some cancers and heart disease. Green and white teas are useful in weight management and provide numerous health benefits, while herbal teas are particularly favoured for their cleansing and calming properties.

I recently tried Strauss Herbal Teas. The company was kind enough to send us samples of their herbal teas, including Chamomile, Herbal Blueberry, and Peppermint Tea (they also sent us Chai and Early Grey, which I LOVED but I’ll save my review for another blog).

As soon as I opened the package, the wonderfully earthy aroma filled the air. I thought the Peppermint and Chamomile teas were both excellent. These teas are fantastic for relieving stress and as an aid in digestion (particularly Peppermint tea). I like to drink these teas in the evening a few hours before bed. My favourite from the bunch was the Herbal Blueberry, which contains white tea, rosehip, hibiscus flower (good for reducing high blood pressure), licorice root and naturally blueberry flavours).

Strauss Herbal Teas uses only natural ingredients and the quality is excellent. I can’t wait to try their Jasmine Green Tea, Mandarin Green Tea, and their Pear Green Tea.
