Vivitas L-Lysine is an essential amino acid. It must be acquired in the diet, because it is not produced by the body. L-Lysine is a necessary building block for protein and is required for the absorption of calcium, and has also been shown to be helpful in bone building. L-Lysine also helps with collagen formation, tissue repair, and healing of muscle and surgical wounds. Studies also show that L-Lysine is able to reduce the recurrence, severity and healing time of herpes outbreaks and cold sores.

L-Lysine acts as a precursor to other amino acids. It can also convert into nutrients that are essential for the metabolism of protein and carbohydrates. L-Lysine displaces L-Arginine, and because the herpes virus depends on L-Arginine for replication, L-Lysine is able to prevent and speed the recovery from a herpes outbreak.  Studies show that L-Lysine reduces the recurrence of herpes simplex labiallis infections and reduces the severity and healing time.

For the prevention and relief of cold sores, take two capsules three times daily. To improve calcium absorption, use two capsules per day.

Risks & Precautions

Although uncommon, side effects of L-Lysine may include abdominal cramps and diarrhea. These symptoms have been reported by those taking extremely high doses (more than 10 g per day). L-Lysine is well tolerated by most people. Discontinue use if side effects occur.

Women who are pregnant or nursing should avoid taking L-Lysine unless prescribed by their health care practitioner. Those who require supplemental L-Lysine should avoid taking L-Arginine supplements. Ingredients: L-Lysine, gelatin, calcium silicate, silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate.
