Zinc functions as an antioxidant and maintains normal taste and smell. It promotes normal growth and development and aids in wound healing. Zinc promotes cell division, cell repair and cell growth and is essential for normal fetal growth and the synthesizing of RNA and DNA.

Zinc also maintains normal levels of Vitamin A in the blood.

Made from gluconate, Jamieson's zinc products are superior, providing the most highly absorbable forms available. All minerals produced by Jamieson Laboratories are guaranteed free from toxic metals.

Excipients: Sorbitol, Cellulose, Modified Cellulose Gum, Vegetable Magnesium Stearate.

Restrictions

Drug Interactions: Zinc can interfere with the following medications: Anti-Arthritics/Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs).

Nutrient Depletions: The following medications may deplete zinc: ACE Inhibitors, Corticosteroids, Anti-Asthmatic Drugs/Bronchodilators, Anti-Cholesterol Drugs/HMG-Co-A Reductase Inhibitors, Anticonvulsant Drugs, Antihypertensive Drugs, Antipyretic Drugs, Progestins, Salicylates.

Zinc may reduce the effectiveness of the following medications: Anti-Malarial Drugs, Fluoroquinolones. Take zinc at least 2 hours after taking antibiotics. Excess zinc can inhibit the absorption of copper and iron.

Breastfeeding may deplete maternal zinc stores, resulting from a greater need for zinc during lactation. Alcohol decreases the absorption of zinc and increases loss of zinc in urine.

Diarrhea causes zinc loss. Those who have had gastrointestinal surgery or who have digestive disorders that result in malabsorption, such as sprue, Crohn's disease and short bowel syndrome, may lack zinc.

Supportive Interactions: Zinc may help prevent infections in individuals on Anti-Retrovirals (AIDS therapy). It may also help the body to use Vitamin A.

Warnings and Precautions: Zinc supplementation can cause a copper deficiency.

Toxicity, Adverse Reactions and Side Effects: Do not exceed recommended dosage. Zinc intakes of 150 to 450 mg per day have been associated with low copper status (which could lead to anemia), altered iron function, reduced immune function, and reduced levels of high-density lipoproteins (HDL), also known as the "good" cholesterol.
