Ingredient Information
Senna (4:1) extract 60 mg (Sennae alexandrina leaf) equivalent to 240 mg of raw herb; Cascara sagrada (4:1) extract 37.5 mg (Phamnus purshiana bark) equivalent to 150 mg of raw herb.
Excipients: Cellulose, Dicalcium Phosphate, Vegetable Magnesium Stearate, Silica, Gelatin.
Restrictions
Drug Interactions: Avoid taking this product with other drugs that decrease potassium levels (i.e. Thiazide Diuretics, Corticosteroids), Antiarrythimics, Digitalis Preparations, Indomethacin.
This product should not to be taken within two hours of other medication as the desired effect of the other medication may be reduced.
Nutrient Depletions: Long-term use of this product can deplete electrolyte levels, and may cause a potassium deficiency.
Supportive Interactions: A higher fibre diet can help to relieve constipation.
Warnings and Precautions: Consult a health care practitioner before use if you are expecting or are a nursing mother. Do not use if you are experiencing abdominal pain (stomach ache, cramps, colic, nausea, vomiting), fever. Do not use any type of laxative for more than one week unless directed by a health care practitioner. Overuse or extended use may cause dependence for bowel function. This product should not to be taken within two hours or other medication as the desired effect of the other medication may be reduced.
Toxicity, Adverse Reactions and Side Effects: Do not exceed recommended dosage. Laxatives may cause cramping, diarrhea, nausea, throat irritation, and skin irritation around the rectal area. If this occurs, reduce dosage or discontinue use.
Long-term use of laxatives can lead to a loss of electrolytes, particularly potassium ions. A potassium deficiency can cause dangerous heart arrhythmias. Other side effects that may occur with long-term use include a spastic colon, edema, hematuria, muscle weakness, and albuminuria.
