Most of us want to make smart purchasing decisions that not only consider quality and value, but also the environmental impact of the product or service we are buying. Determining whether a product has a large carbon footprint or whether it utilizes environmentally sustainable resources, practices and principles can be difficult to assess. In order to avoid being misled by Greenwashing, the practice of companies disingenuously spinning their products and policies as environmentally friendly, consumers should check product labels for third party certifications such as the Environmental Choice Program's EcoLogo and 1% for the Planet to verify that a product is truly green.
